Quartzite worktops, supplied & fitted
Quartzite is a natural stone, sandstone transformed by heat and pressure, that often looks like marble but is harder than granite. It's the choice for people who want natural veining and real durability in one slab.

Quartzite is not the same as quartz, and the names cause a lot of confusion. Quartz worktops are engineered from crushed quartz and resin. Quartzite is a 100% natural stone quarried in slabs, with flowing veins and soft colour shifts that can rival marble, but without marble's softness. Good quartzite resists heat, scratches and etching far better than marble.
Well-known stones include Taj Mahal, with its warm cream ground and gentle gold veining, along with dramatic whites, greys, greens and blues. Because it's natural, every slab is different, and we'll help you choose one you love.
Why choose quartzite
- 100% natural with marble-like veining
- Harder than granite: very scratch resistant
- Excellent heat resistance
- Far less prone to etching than marble
- Every slab is unique
Worth knowing
- Needs occasional sealing
- One of the pricier surfaces
- Hard to cut, so fabrication costs more
- Some stones sold as 'quartzite' are actually softer
What does a quartzite worktop cost?
Quartzite typically costs around £350–£700 per square metre supplied and fitted, roughly £1,800–£3,800 for a typical 5–6 m² kitchen. It's priced like premium marble because it's both a sought-after natural stone and harder to cut and polish. See our worktop cost guide.
True quartzite vs 'soft quartzite'
Some stones sold as quartzite are really dolomitic marble, which looks similar but is softer and can etch. A genuine quartzite will scratch glass and won't react to lemon juice. We'll tell you honestly what a slab is and how it will behave before you commit.
Living with quartzite
Clean with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner, reseal occasionally (we seal it before fitting), and wipe oils promptly on lighter stones. It handles hot pans well, though a trivet is still kind to the seal.
How we fit quartzite
Quartzite is extremely hard, which is exactly why it suits CNC cutting. We template your kitchen, cut and finish the slabs in our own Sheffield workshop, and fit with our own team across the UK.

Quartzite worktops: common questions
What's the difference between quartz and quartzite?
Quartz worktops are engineered from crushed quartz and resin, with consistent colour and no sealing. Quartzite is a natural stone quarried in slabs, harder than granite, with unique veining, and it needs occasional sealing.
Is quartzite better than marble?
For a busy kitchen, usually yes. Quartzite can look similar to marble but is much harder and far less likely to scratch or etch.
How much do quartzite worktops cost?
Around £350–£700 per m² supplied and fitted, or roughly £1,800–£3,800 for a typical 5–6 m² kitchen.
Does quartzite need sealing?
Yes, occasionally. We seal it before fitting; resealing every year or two keeps lighter stones protected.
